Let us try the blog again as a means to keep you informed of our classroom activities.
Letters of the alphabet
The children have been introduced to all the letters and the goal is that they can identify all upper and lower case letters in any given order.
Letter sounds
The student have been introduced to the sounds of
d, t, a, h, s, m. In class they are learning to listen for each of those sounds when given a word.
They should be able to tell if they hear that letter at the beginning of the word or at the end of the word.
To practice this at home have your child draw two lines. Say a word, Sam, they say it, then write the sounds they hear. Many children are adding the middle sound also. S a m Next have them say the three sounds to put the word together.

The children have been learning ways to make 4 through 10.
Using unifix cubes they take a given number, break it into two parts, then tell what they have. If the number is 4, they may get, 0 and 4 is 4, 1 and 3 is 4, 2 and 2 is 4. They are also learning to write the sentence.
At home practice --- Put 4 to 10 objects in a ziplock baggie. Have your child separate the items into two groups. Next they tell you 5 and 2 is 7. Put the items together, separate again, they tell you 3 and 4 is 7. They can write the sentence for you also.
