The students will continue to work on their adding skills. We are taking story problems to the next level by breaking the story down and identifying the important numbers and the important words such as all together, join, and sum that tell us that we must add. They are learning the words and symbols plus + and all mean the same thing. They are also learning that what is on the left side of the equal sign is the same amount on the right side.
Two activities they will be doing in class are:
Use dominoes to add vertically and horizontally and you get the same answer.
To learn that any number plus zero is the same number, have you or your child put several items in one hand and zero items in the other hand. Hold your hands out for your partner to see. Write the addition sentence on paper. 7 + 0 = 7.
