We will continue with building number sense activities.
The children are ordering numbers 1-20 with a partner.
One game we play is to find the missing number that your
partner has removed.
A second game that they play using the 1-20 cards is to
start with number 1, 2, or 3. Shake a dice and count on
the number shown on the dice.
A third game that can be done at home is to take 7,8,9, or 10 items
such as pennies, cereal, or buttons. Tell your child how many you are
starting with. Put some in each hand. Your child should say that
3 and 4 equals 7, 6 and 4 equals 10.
To make this harder show your child only what is in one hand. Ask them
how many more they need to make 7,8,9,or 10.
The students are learning how to illustrated story problems in their
math journals. An example of this is I have 4 chocolate cupcakes and
5 pink cupcakes. How many do I have? The students draw 4 brown cupcakes and 5 pink cupcakes. Then they write 4+5+9
